So, Halle started school about two weeks ago. She does not like it very much at the moment. She misses Kindergarten and her teacher from last year, who was absolutely fabulous. She says her teacher this year is mean and she yells a lot. I have talked with her teacher, and she seems nice, but can come across as a little harsh. I feel so bad for Halle because she LOVED school last year, and now she comes home grumpy every day. She will often just break down and cry and cry. She says that first grade is so hard and she has a hard time paying attention for a long period of time. I feel so bad for the poor emotional girl. She is doing very well academically. All the homework she brings home is no problem for her and she is reading very well. I guess she will just have to keep getting used to her new environment. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be happy to take them :) It is so different to have to deal with theses types of problems.
I haven't posted pictures for a long time, so here are some random ones from the summer...

that is soooo sad! It makes you realize what a huge difference it makes to get a good teacher.
I am so sorry Halle is having such a hard time. I hope things get better for her and YOU! The slumber party looked like a blast!
That slumber party does look fun...too bad it was a little too uncomfortable for you to slumber! That is really sad about Halle and school....Have you thought about talking to the teacher and see if she has any suggestions? I know that the transition is hard from Kindergarten to 1st grade....my friend's little boy is having the same struggles....I bet it just takes time for them to make the adjustment and once they do, it will be just fine. Love you!
Oh Halle. I am so sorry that you don't have an amazing teacher this year. Kiani can sympathize because she has had some bad years herself. Last year was a nightmare but this year is much better.
Kristen, if it doesn't get better after the first two months then I would probably find out if the teacher is being too mean. I hate to see Halle have a bad year because of a mean teacher. She is an amazing little girl and will be great no matter what but it sure is nicer when they have great teachers. I would say for some advice right now. Keep communicating with Halle about her day and if at all possible volunteer in the class. It helps to see what the kids are doing. She will probably get over this soon and be fine though. We love you guys and can't wait to see you in November.
Oh, Miss Halle. I hope things get better..I can't imagine going to school and being so miserable. I don't have any great advice...not too educated in this area yet..just give her a big hug from me and hang in there!! love you
You guys are the cutest parents ever! Gosh, why are there mean teachers?! Sadly I don't think there is much you can do about it on her side, but you can do a lot as a mom, which I know you already do! Help her focus on the good things. Good luck! I will keep this on my mind and let you know if I have any ideas.
My little neice is having the same problem. She loved kindergarten but thinks the day is too long for first grade. I have no suggestions, sorry. That's awesome that you got hooked up on the stay at home work thing. Yes, I've always thought it would be perfect to work from home but also hard. Do you get up super early or do you stay up late? Once again, can I just tell you how cute your kids are?
Oh I hope she gets to liking it better and that meany of a teacher will back off! It looks like you are such a great mommy though with the sleep over and all the fun they are having at the beach:) As to the question about trascription... well it takes a while. i think it took me about 6 months to get my first doctor down and getting it done in like an hour. WIth the second doctor(he has more to say and harder) it only took about two months. So I think once you just get going and going it gets easier. You start typing an awful lot faster too. I think I only typed around 50 wpm and now it is around 80. They start saying the same things and it gets in your head and you can't get it out:) I hope that helps but if you need anything please call and we can chat... good luck.
Poor sweet Halle! And I was feeling sorry for myself because Garrett isn't sleeping too great these days. I don't like the "big kid" problems! I could be better help if Halle was in junior high, but I would just say to stay in touch with the teacher. Email is my fave way to communicate with parents. Good luck!
